The Lecce Italian Language Experience

16 June 2015

Don't delay for September. Flights are filling, and prices are going up.

There are still a handful of places available for the 2015 Lecce Italian Language Experience for September. Do not delay if you want to join us in September. Prices are on the way up and now start from $6100.

Prices are rising due to high booking rates in September for flights bound for Europe. In other words the flights are filling and the airlines do not have to heavily discount their fares to fill the aircraft.

Prices are quoted in Australian dollars and are based on airfares available at the time of writing.

As always enquiries from countries other than Australia are most welcome. Prices will be adjusted according to your local currency and airfares from your location. Open the following link for all the details.

Please feel free to email me if you have any questions.

Lecce in May a great success - roll on September

The May 2015 Lecce Italian Language Experience is now over and what a month it has been.

The last two weeks were as good as the first two. Highlights included the UNESCO listed Alberobello, the amazing Grotte di Castellana limestone caves, and Lecce Cortili Aperti, a one-day event held only in May when Lecce's stately homes and palazzi open up their courtyards and gardens for all to visit. No major event in Lecce is complete without music and food and so it was with this one. Thousands of people jammed the streets to enjoy the day.

My personal highlight of the last two weeks was the Festa della Madonna della Coltura in Parabita, a small town south of Lecce. Tens of thousands of people turned out for three days of religious observance and celebration that finished with an amazing fireworks show. Foreign visitors are rare so it was a real privilege to be there. Our group was such an oddity that we were interviewed by the local internet TV station (70 min in).

18 May 2015

Greetings from Lecce

We are now two weeks into the May 2015 Lecce Italian Language Experience and it has been one highlight after another. Day trips along the Adriatic coast and to beautiful regional towns; a bike ride through olive groves and villages in Grecia Salentina, a visit to Masseria Sant'Angelo, and cooking lessons with the wonderful Gianna.

Yesterday (Sun 18 May) we had a very big day in Bari the capital of Puglia. A beautiful meal at La Cecchina in the old town was followed by a sublime visit to the Basilica San Nicola - home of the remains of St Nicholas aka Santa (who also happens to be black). The ridiculous was bypassed which led us to a night at the opera at the even more sublime Teatro Petruzzelli - and Verdi's Macbeth. An amazing day.
